Short Definition: Natural substance that improves overall health
Definition:
A tonic, also known as health tonic, is a non-toxic natural substance that has the ability to improve and maintain the health of the human body when used regularly over time. It tones the internal organs and body functions.
Health tonics are more acceptable to Eastern cultures than Western. That is because a health tonic addresses many different conditions. Western medicine favours highly targeted drugs that treat just one condition.
Eastern cultures adopt an opposite point of view, the highest ideal of a remedy is one that works for everything. This places it in the category of a superior medicine.
Examples of tonics would be Goji, ginseng, reishi mushrooms, and even aspirin. In the context of aromatherapy tonic essential oils include Angelica, Basil, Black Pepper, Cinnamon, Clove, Geranium, Ginger, Lavender Lemon, Marjoram, Myrrh, Nutmeg, Rosemary and Thyme. Most of these are gently stimulating. Use in baths and massage. Also they can be burner in an oil burner. Try to use the corresponding herb when cooking.
Also as with many areas of life good nutrition, multi vitamins, mineral supplements, adequate rest and gentle exercise.
