Description
Origin: Our present knowledge of the properties and uses of Tea Tree is based on a very long history of use by the aboriginal people of Australia. The name derives from its local usage as a type of herbal tea, prepared from the leaves. Originally used as an antidote to venomous snake bites, they also found it a good treatment for sunburn. This oil is unusual in that it is active against all three varieties of infectious organisms: bacteria, fungi and viruses. Tea Tree is thought to be one hundred times more powerful than carbolic acid, and yet it is non-poisonous to humans!

Source: The Tea Tree or Swamp Tree is a native of Australia and Tasmania, mainly New South Wales.

Skin Care: Tea tree essential oil is said to be excellent for combating ailments such as athlete’s foot, mouth ulcers, verrucas, thrush and warts, due to its powerful anti-fungal properties. It can also be used for acne, rashes and bites as well as relieving blisters, burns and dandruff. With its antiseptic qualities, just one dab of undiluted oil applied once or twice a day can alleviate cold sores, spots and oily skin.

Respiratory System: Asthma, bronchitis, coughs, sinusitis, tuberculosis and whooping cough as well as catarrh are all said to respond to this natural oil. A few drops on a handkerchief will ease the symptoms, alternatively tea tree can be used as a steam inhalation.

Genito-urinary System: For conditions such as thrush, vaginitis, cystitis and pruritis add some drops of Tea tree oil to a warm bath.

Immune System: Tea tree essential oil is reputed to be good for combating colds, fevers, flu and infectious illnesses such as chickenpox. It is considered an immuno-stimulant; when the body is threatened with illness, tea tree can increase its ability to respond.

Mixing Oils: It blends well with Lavender, Clary Sage, Rosemary, Pine, Geranium, Marjoram and Spice oils such as Nutmeg and Clove.

General: To get rid of fleas on pets, add a few drops to pet shampoo or dilute in water (10 drops to half a pint of water) and massage into the fur.
