Description
Serenity is considered to be a state of mind in which we experience peace and freedom from turmoil.
Elisabeth Sifton wrote a prayer called The Serenity Prayer which if we could live by its essence would probably seek to promote a more serene state of mind.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
The philosopher W.W. Bartley put the prayer in a non religious form:
For every ailment under the sun
There is a remedy, or there is none;
If there be one, try to find it;
If there be none, never mind it.

Essential oils and the part they play in appealing to our sense of smell and in soothing and relieving our bodies is an ever increasing area of interest and research. The close association of a particular scent with a particular place or event can be put to good use in the context of aromatherapy. The Serenity blend has been developed with these ideas in mind.

A small proportion of Marjoram in this oil can have a sedative effect and a warming effect on the mental and emotional level. Geranium is reputed to be anti depressant, to have a balancing effect on our emotions, to uplift the spirit and to open the heart. Lavender is reputed to have a remarkably balancing effect, relieving anxiety and encouraging calmness and serenity. Patchouli was very popular in the 1960’s possibly due to its reputed ability to instill peace, calm and love whilst at the same time helping to clarify problems. The four contributing oils in this blend have complementary strengths which should help to promote real serenity in mind and body. Regent House makes no medicinal claims for this blend of oil and it is important to read the warning before use. This product can be used diluted as massage oil, neat in the bath or to burn in an oil burner.

Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that uses volatile liquid plant material, known as essential oils and other scented compounds from plants for the purpose of affecting a person's mood or health. Aromatherapy is a generic term referring to any of the various traditions that make use of essential oils, sometimes in combination with other alternative medical practices and spiritual beliefs. It has a particularly Western currency and persuasion. Medical treatment involving aromatic scents may exist outside of the West, but may or may not be included in the term 'aromatherapy'.
