Description

Origin: Rosewood comes from trees that are native to the Amazon basin. It has mainly been obtained from wild trees in the past but due to the concerns about the rainforest there are now cultivated plantations where logging is controlled. The heavy wood is mainly transported by river and only during the seasons when the logs can be floated with the current between April and July. The essential oil is then extracted by steam distillation from the wood chippings.

Sources: Brazil and Peru are the main producers.

Nervous system: Rosewood is very safe oil and has a tonic effect on the body. It is good for anyone who has a low immunity and is recommended for chronic fatigue. It would suggest therefore that it could be helpful in treating conditions such as M.E. glandular fever and other related conditions, which leave people feeling incredibly tired and run down. It can help to get rid of headaches and is good to clear the head. It has an uplifting effect and can help to calm the nerves at times of excessive strain.

Skin Care: It is good oil for sensitive skins as it is very gentle and it’s antiseptic and antibacterial qualities make it useful in treating conditions such as acne. It is valuable in helping more mature skins, as it is a cellular regenerator. It is also makes a good deodorant.

General: Rosewood seems to have aphrodisiac qualities which many people think relate to its effect on the mind and emotions. It is a very special oil as it seems to be able to affect the very core of the way we feel.

Mixing Oils: It is a complex fragrance and as such works very well on its own but can be blended with other oils successfully.
