Origin: Our present knowledge of the properties and uses of Tea Tree is based on a very long history of use by the aboriginal people of Australia. The name derives from its local usage as a type of herbal tea, prepared from the leaves. Originally used as an antidote to venomous snake bites, they also found it a good treatment for sunburn. This oil is unusual in that it is active against all three varieties of infectious organisms: bacteria, fungi and viruses.
Tea Tree is thought to be one hundred times more powerful than carbolic acid, and yet it is non-poisonous to humans!
