Origin: Nutmeg is the kernel from the fruit of a tree native to India, Java and Sumatra, and is also grown in the West Indies. The outer layer of the same fruit also yields the spice, Mace. The oil is extracted by steam distillation from the dried nutmeg seed

Source: Although native to the Moluccas and nearby islands it can be found been cultivated in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the West Indies. The essential oil is also distilled in the USA and Europe from imported nutmegs

Useful for: In small doses Nutmeg can be used for the following; arthritis, gout, muscular aches and pains, poor circulation and rheumatism

Digestive system: Nutmeg oil is said to have similar properties as cinnamon and will help with flatulence, indigestion, nausea and sluggish digestion

Nervous system: Nutmeg oil is good for frigidity, impotence, neuralgia and nervous fatigue

Mixing oils: Nutmeg blends well with such oils as orange, geranium, clary sage, rosemary, lime, petit grain, mandarin, coriander and other spice oils

Clove and orange are also a good blend and virtually reproduces the perfume of traditional pomanders, which have been used for centuries to perfume rooms and ward off infection.
