Origin: The lime fruit comes from a small evergreen tree with stiff sharp spines and small white flowers. It is a bitter fruit about half the size of a lemon and was often used in place of lemons with which it shares many qualities.

Sources: It is native to southern Asia and is found in many tropical and subtropical areas of the world. It is cultivated mainly in Florida, the West Indies (Cuba), Central America (Mexico) and Italy

Skin Care: Mix lime and lemon essential oils in a base oil such as Aloe Vera and apply to greasy skin, spots, varicose veins, boils, chilblains and brittle nails. It can be used to good effect to stop minor bleeding such as gums or teeth and helps with certain skin conditions. It acts as an astringent and therefore can help to brighten dull and tired skin. Another suggestion is to mix it with lemon and teatree and apply to corns, verrucaes and warts taking care to avoid the healthy skin

Respiratory: Lime can be used effectively to add asthma, throat infections, bronchitis and catarrh

Immune System: Lime is used for treating colds, flu, infections and fevers. It can assist with reducing the temperature and is excellent mixed with Lemon and Lavender and applied to the forehead on a cold compress.  It is generally used to stimulate the white corpuscles that defend the body against infection

Circulation, muscles and joints: It can be diluted in a base oil such as Evening Primrose and applied to rheumatic joints, arthritis, areas effected by poor circulation and cellulites

Mixing oils: Lime mixes well with any member of the citrus family and also neroli, citronella, lavender, rosemary and clary sage.
