Ancient origin: Lemon Teatree is native to Australia as is the Tea Tree Oil. Both are a relatively modern discovery by essential oil standards, having been used by the aboriginal people of Australia for only the past five or six hundred years. Originally used as an antidote to venomous snake bites, they discovered it worked well for sunburn and almost any type of fungal infection. Lemon Teatree has a very pleasant citrus smell and therefore combines the wonderful properties of Teatree with a very pleasant aroma. It is called the forgotten Teatree as it has been rediscovered recently. Originally derided by the medical world, it is now taken very seriously and is the subject of a great deal of international research/.
This is testimony to the incredible properties of this oil; for example the antiseptic action of Tea Tree is thought to be one hundred times more powerful than carbolic acid, and yet it is non-poisonous to humans! It produces white, hanging flowers on a long spike, but the oil is extracted by water or steam distillation from the leaves and twigs.
