As the name implies, head lice are specialized to live among the hair present on the human head and are exquisitely adapted to living mainly on the scalp and neck hairs of their human host

The most common symptom is itching of the scalp, caused when the louse bites through the skin to feed on blood

Other symptoms include insomnia, psychological disturbance (due to the unpleasant nature of the complaint), hair loss (in extreme cases) and irritation caused by the louse's saliva

Excessive scratching may cause bleeding of the scalp, which may increase the risk of microbial infection

Head Lice have always been a major problem especially in schools and there is much talk these days of the fact that they are becoming increasingly resistant to traditional medications

A number of essential oils are reputed to help to combat lice and Eucalyptus combined with Tea Tree makes a powerful combination

Eucalyptus is reputed to have excellent bactericidal properties as well as being a strong insect deterrent

Tea Tree is said to have great antiseptic properties and is powerful against organisms, bacteria, fungi and viruses

The best way to use the oil is to apply to the scalp and leave overnight if possible before combing through the hair with a fine toothed comb to remove the eggs and lice

Keep treating the hair until no evidence of lice is seen and then use the Head Lice prevention oil to keep them away
