Ancient Origin: It is important not to confuse this plant with the familiar brightly coloured suburban variety whose proper name is actually perlargonium. The one used for essential oil is a perennial hairy shrub with pointed leaves, serrated edges and small pink flowers. Geranium dates back to the earliest British herbal folk traditions. The plant has been described as being under the influence of Venus, though it is of a less feminine character than Rose. The whole plant is aromatic and the oil is extracted by steam-distillation. This oil is a joy to use and mixes in delightful ways with other oils often creating almost a spiritual back drop for the blend to which it is added.
Source: Originally a native of South Africa it is now cultivated in Russia, Egypt, Congo, Japan, Central America and Europe. There are three main regions for essential oil production which are Egypt, Russia and Reunion (Bourbon)
Skin Care: A good oil for many skin problems including acne, bruises, broken capillaries, burns, congested skin, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, haemorrhoids, lice, mature skin, oily complexion, ulcers and wounds.Geranium works especially well as a massage cream.
Circulation muscles and joints: Good for cellulitis, engorgement of breasts, edema and poor circulation
Respiratory system: It works well as an antiseptic for the mouth and throat and could be used in mouthwashes and gargles for sore throats, ulcers and gum infections and can also be used to good effect for tonsillitis.
Genito-urinary System: Geranium has a balancing act due to the fact that it is an adrenal cortex stimulant which means that it will help to govern the balance of hormones secreted by other organs. So it can be of great help with menopausal problems, fluid retention or conditions where a fluctuating hormone balance is indicated

Mixing Oils: It blends well with Lavender, Patchouli, Rose, Neroli, Sandalwood, Jasmine, Juniper, Bergamot and other citrus oils.
