Hormones play a dominant role in the formation of cellulite. Diet has been shown to affect the development and amount of cellulite. Excessive amounts of fat, carbohydrates, salt, alcohol or too little fibre can all contribute to an increase in cellulite. Smoking, lack of exercise, tight clothes, high heeled shoes, and sitting or standing in a single position for long periods have all been correlated with an increase in cellulite. A high stress lifestyle will cause an increase in the catecholamine hormones. Cellulite affects many people and is the subject of much debate.

Aromatherapy has been thought in some instances to work well for this condition and massage combined with essential oils has been considered to help. Geranium and Rosemary are said to have a stimulating effect on the lymphatic system. Juniper is said to help in situations where accumulated toxins are associated with fluid retention so Juniper can be detoxifying which is important in helping with cellulite. The action of massage in itself can also be good and skin brushing or bathing using these oils may prove beneficial.

Diet, exercise, reducing the amount of stress in life, stopping smoking and massage have all been linked with helping to reduce cellulite but no definitive proof has been given that any single factor can scientifically get rid of it.
