Sinusitis is an inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, which may or may not be as a result of infection, from bacterial, fungal, viral, allergic or autoimmune issues. Sinusitis can be acute (going on less than four weeks), subacute (4-12 weeks) or chronic (going on for 12 weeks or more).All three types of sinusitis have similar symptoms which are of facial pain, headache, halitosis, cough, anterior rhinorrhea, pressure and fatigue.
Catarrh (commonly known as a "runny nose") is a discharge or mucus blockage caused by the swelling of the mucous membranes.
The symptom is usually associated with the common cold, but can also be found in patients with middle ear infections, tonsillitis, sinusitis or an adenoid infection.
Eucalyptus is probably best known for its association with clearing stuffy noses and helping breathing. It is said to have powerful bactericidal and anti viral actions and acts as a great decongestant.
Peppermint is said to help colds and flu because of its warming and stimulating properties which can be valuable at the onset of a cold to combat the chills often felt.
The main use of Pine is in the treatment of respiratory infection. It can work as an expectorant and also assist with sore throats, catarrh and sinusitis.
As the scent of Pine is woody and fresh it makes a powerful combination when mixed with Eucalyptus.
