Origin: The camphor tree can grow up to 35 metres and camphor is found in every part of the tree. As a native of Taiwan, China and Japan the tree can often grow as old as a thousand years and to produce the oil the tree must be at least 50 years old. Camphor was well known as a remedy against the plague in Persia and was also used in embalming. The Chinese used Camphor wood to build ships and temples because of the woods durable and aromatic properties. Camphor oil is extracted by steam from the chipped wood, root stumps and branches

Muscles and Joints: Camphor is good for pains, bruising, sprains, rheumatism and inflammation. Cold compresses can particularly help with this
Respiratory system: Camphor can really help with colds, flu, bronchitis, coughs and respiratory disorders. It can help to reduce inflammation and is good as a steam inhalation
Nervous System: Camphor oil is a balancing oil which can sedate the nerves and help with apathy. Camphor can be used for the heart, lungs and circulation as well as for convalescing. It works best in an oil burner or steam.
Mixing Oils: It blends well with Basil, Cajeput, Chamomile, Lavender and Melissa
