Description

Origin: This oil is a fairly recent addition to the European aroma therapist's repertoire of oils. It has a long history of use by the Maori people. The shrubs grow in the bush and are harvested from the wild.

Source: It is native to the north-east and central South America. It is mainly produced in Brazil also Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam and Colombia.

Skin Care: It is an excellent antiseptic and can be applied to cuts, spots, boils, ulcers and is particularly helpful where healing has been a slow process. Manuka can be used neat on the skin but for general use it is better to dilute it in a base oil as this prevents it drying out the skin. It can be used for treating acne and oily skin conditions. It has an anti histamine action and is good for insect bites and stings.

Respiratory System: Manuka oil is anti-viral, anti-fungal and highly bactericidal. It can be used for all types of respiratory tract infections such as colds, catarrh, sinusitis, bronchitis etc. It can be used in the bath for colds, dabbed neat on to cold sores and is excellent in an oil burner during epidemics.

Circulation, Muscles and Joints: It is a good local analgesic helpful for muscular pain and rheumatism.

General: This is a good oil for keeping animals free from fleas.

Mixing Oils: It blends well with virtually any other oil as it has such a gentle aroma
