Description
Ancient Origin: This sweet smelling grass was originally used in India to ward of infections and calm fevers. The dried leaves were burned to keep the mind alert.

Source: Lemongrasse is native to Asia. The oil is extracted from the leaves of this fast growing grass by steam distillation. There are several varieties on the market (including East Indian and West Indian) although there is little difference in therapeutic effect between them.

Useful for: It has a wonderful fresh lemon type fragrance which is refreshing. It will clear the mind and cure some types of headaches. It has an anti-bacterial action so is good for skin complaints (spots etc.), athlete’s foot and sore throats. Also combats tobacco smells.

Most popular uses: Inhalation, and massage. For the sports-person Lemongrasse is the ideal cooler and deodoriser. Will repel insects.

Skin Care: For spots add 10 drops of Lemongrasse to 10 drops of Geranium and dilute in 30ml of Sweet Almond oil. Massage the oil in and dab the face until no excess oil shows. Many commercial lotions which are designed to degrease the skin actually cause the sebaceous glands to produce more fat to compensate for the lack of it that results. Lemongrass is reputed to help with conditions such as athletes foot and sweatiness. A good remedy to try for athletes foot is to add 30 drops to 30ml of Grapeseed Oil and use as a foot massage. Alternatively, add mixture to warm salt water foot bath and place pebbles in the bath on which to roll the soles of your feet. Mixes well with Tea Tree for this purpose.

Nervous System Lemongrass is valuable during times of stress and tension such as exams, job worries and pressure. It is also good for tension headaches.

General:  Lemongrass especially when combined with Cinnamon works well to neutralise tobacco smells:
