Description

Lavender is a well known and much loved scent. It is renowned to aid sleep and these stones are imprenated with pure Lavender essential oil. To use just place the stones in a suitable container (ceramic is ideal as it does not absorb the scent) and allow them to release their fragrance. These stones can be refreshed using natural lavender essential oil.

The “stones” used in our Lavender Stones are a natural product named Zeolite. Zeolites (Greek, zein, "to boil"; lithos, "a stone") are minerals that have a micro-porous structure. The term was originally coined in the 18th century by a Swedish mineralogist named Axel Fredrik Cronstedt who observed, upon rapidly heating a natural mineral, that the stones began to dance about as the water evaporated. Using the Greek words which mean "stone that boils," he called this material zeolite. More than 150 zeolite types have been synthesized and 48 naturally occurring zeolites are known.
Natural zeolites form where volcanic rocks and ash layers react with alkaline groundwater. Zeolites also crystallized in post-depositional environments over periods ranging from thousands to millions of years in shallow marine basins. Naturally occurring zeolites are rarely pure and are contaminated to varying degrees by other minerals, metals, quartz or other zeolites. For this reason, naturally occurring zeolites are excluded from many important commercial applications where uniformity and purity are essential. Because of the highly porous structure of the stones they absorb and hold fragrance very well.
These stones have been impregnated with pure Lavender oil which needs little introduction as its scent is already hugely popular and well loved. Lavender is perhaps best known for its association with sleep and is reputed to aid insomnia or sleep related disorder caused by tension or stress.
Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterized by an inability to sleep and/or inability to remain asleep for a reasonable period. Insomniacs typically complain of being unable to close their eyes or "rest their mind" for more than a few minutes at a time. It can be caused by fear, stress, anxiety, medications, herbs, caffeine, depression, or bipolar disorder and sometimes occurs for no apparent reason. An overactive mind or physical pain may also be causes. Poor sleep quality can occur as a result of depression. The more relaxed a person is, the greater the likelihood of getting a good night's sleep.
