There are a variety of treatments available which include medications and therapy. However various essential oils have been used to treat hysteria at different times and places. These include Chaomile Roman, Clary Sage, Lavender, Marjoram, Melissa, Neroli, Peppermint, Rosemary and Ylang Ylang. However often these essential oils are more helpful to prevent hysterical crises than in dealing with them if they arise. Hysteria tends to be more to do with extreme swings of mood and the way in which these oils can help would be to help with massage to create a calmer emotional state. In an immediate crisis the person can benefit from Melissa or Neroli essential oils and can be inhaled from the bottle. Afterwards a gentle massage with a blend of Benzoin and Rose essential oils is one which can really help after a crisis.
